794 Call In Show June 10 2007This is a featured page

Summary:

This podcast deals with many people new to the philosophy. Stef begins the podcast with very little introduction, speaking to a woman new to Freedomain Radio. Stef introduces her to the philosophy, and then Christina speaks for a while about the inevitability of bringing some background to the table as a professional therapist, citing studies. Next, Stef begins to talk about a letter from a listener about dealing with bureaucrats when he receives a call from a gentleman who claims that he was talking and circles and makes several ad hominem attacks. Next, a man from the UK introduces his theory on economics, which involves a mysterious disappearance of money whenever taxes are cut. He steps out from the conversation in order to a do a bit more research and come back later.

The next caller, a man from Sudan, speaks about the difficulties of finding a voice in the third world, and at the problem of faceless organizations like the World Bank and governments. Then the discussion takes an interesting turn, where the caller states that people sometimes need people to force them to do things, right or wrong. He says: "Sometimes there are insane leaders, but at least they are leading." He postulates that this need for leadership may be why societies invent gods, irrespective of whether god really exists or not.
